The creative playing field is leveled at Whistler’s annual Olympus 72hr Filmmaker Showdown. Post-production trickery, exotic locations, superstar talent and big budget advantages are made irrelevant when filmmakers are tasked to shoot, edit and produce a 3-5 minute short film, shot within 100km radius of Whistler over the course of 72 hours. Relying purely on originality, craft, speed and endurance, (not to mention excessive consumption of coffee), the Olympus 72hr Filmmaker Showdown distills the art of film-making into its purest form – getting your creative vision from concept to reality in record time in order for it to be enjoyed on the big screens by a 1500+ strong audience. The 72hr Filmmaker Showdown gives deadline superpowers – three rotations of the Earth on its axis makes for a no-holds-barred creative frenzy and the most in-demand film screening of the year.
RULES IN A NUTSHELL
Teams have 72 hours to create a minimum 3-5 minute short film, shot within 100km of Whistler Village. Work done in the allotted time period only will be accepted! Check out the Rules and Regs below for more details.
Filming/production/editing will begin Friday, April 6th immediately following the 9am Mandatory Directors Meeting, and films must be handed in between 8am and 10am on Monday, April 9th.
In the interest of keeping the 72hr Olympus Filmmaker Showdown contest as authentic a playing field for creative talent as possible, each team will be required to incorporate a surprise PROP into their films and have on screen for a minimum of 5 consecutive seconds. The prop will be revealed at the Mandatory Directors Meeting on April 6th.
ADDITIONAL PRIZE MONEY FROM OLYMPUS
BACK FOR THE 7TH YEAR! Olympus is offering an additional $5,000 bonus prize if the Best of Show film is shot exclusively with Olympus cameras and lenses.
